According to an ancient story, the church was built after St. Francis’s preaching which took place in Pisa around 1211; in fact, two of his Pisan followers, Agnello and Alberto, erected the first Franciscan building. The architectonic structure of the church reflects the typical Franciscan style: simple lines, poor materials, but vast sizes (18 m x 70 m).
Noteworthy is the bell tower without supporting columns, which does not rest on the ground, but on the two sides of the nave and is supported by two big stone shelves. A part of the church became a civic museum in 1899 and is now a school, while the inner cloister is used by the parishioners. The building houses 17th-century paintings and original glass doors.

Chiesa di San Lorenzo, Fauglia - Pisa in Toscana
Citata dal 1251 e ampliata tra i secoli XV e XVI, crollò a causa del terribile sisma del 1846 e subito dopo fu riedificata. Oggi l’edificio si presenta con una semplice facciata in stile neoclassico scandita da tre arcate cieche che includono le porte. All’interno, diviso in tre navate, sull’altare in testa alla navata destra si trova il bel rilievo in terracotta dipinta raffigurante la venerata immagine della “Madonna del soccorso”.
Dalla parte opposta è posizionato l’altare del Crocifisso, realizzato in marmi policromi nel secolo XVIII. Nella cappella del Rosario è situata la “Madonna del Rosario”, opera di scuola pisana risalente al secolo XVIII. Nella prima campata della navata sinistra è osservabile il settecentesco dipinto raffigurante “San Lorenzo”, attribuito al pisano Luigi Secchi.
